One of them does in fact break, but there's another. Mordred takes it back to Draega and it doesn't take long for her to either realize where to go with the device or to have it pointed out to her. She makes her way to the Tinker Guild, where the Tinker equivalent of an exhausted PhD student takes it, goes wide-eyed, makes some awkward gurgling noises, and finally exclaims, "Oh, this is—Master Tinker Mari will want to know about this." He's too exhausted to move quickly, but he does turn away and start wandering down the hall a few steps before he thinks that, hey, maybe that's a bad idea.

Mordred gets an invitation to join him and Master Tinker Mari. They explain they need some time to truly investigate the object, but Master Tinker Mari is very sure this is a special kind of Farcaster, a remote radio device the Tinker Guild in a nearby Territory is working on. Why it ended up in the Heartsblood River making weird noises... that, she's not so sure of.
