premise

THE STORY
Mist swirls around you, the woman, and the altar that stands between the two of you. On the altar rests a chalice and a single, gleaming Jewel. The woman leans forward. Maybe it's the mist, but you think there is something inhuman about the sharp lines of her face.
"A wish offered with blood is a prayer to the Darkness," she says. Her voice, all midnight and velvet, echoes as though you stand in a cavern. "If you will bleed for me, for my people, and for the land that is dying, I will grant that wish. Agree, and I will help you find the Darkness in your soul."
She answers some of your questions: she comes from a Realm called Terreille, and lives there in the Territory called Hayll, which she rules. The land and people are dying, and her enemies converge on her, seeking only to tear from the land what little wealth and life remain. She needs heroes to aide her, and she believes you are one such hero. Stay and help her, or go—but if you stay, she will take your dreams and bind them to reality. A gift, a thank you, to take home with you when your job is done.
Should you accept, she names you a Stranger, grants you a Jewel, and when you wake you are in her residence with the dark power of the Blood to aide you, but the decision is yours. You may assist the strange, eccentric Queen who claims to want to revitalize the land, or you may choose to throw in your lot with the two factions who want to squeeze the last drops of power from the world for themselves.
THE GAME
A Gentle Night is a dark fantasy jamjar set in the post-apocalyptic world of the Black Jewels Trilogy. Though summoned by the Queen of Hayll, characters will be able to choose to support her or one of two other factions, and in doing so will change the fate of the world.
